VOTE YES on June 3
Support Ballot Measure AA for Open Space
POST’s longtime partner, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD), is placing a bond measure on the June ballot to increase public access to its open space preserves and protect valuable natural resources in our region. POST is putting its full support behind the measure and encouraging all our donors to vote “Yes” on June 3.
In February, POST’s Board of Directors authorized POST staff to lead the campaign effort on behalf of MROSD, which, as a public agency, is prohibited by law from fundraising for itself. MROSD manages 26 preserves and has permanently preserved more than 62,000 acres — including thousands of acres originally protected through your support of POST. This general obligation bond is designed to raise $300 million for MROSD’s highest-priority projects, supplementing current revenue to expand public access and create, improve and maintain preserves, trails and natural areas. It will also provide funds for future land acquisitions from partners like POST.
“We are so fortunate to have protected lands that safeguard our water supply, clean our air and provide hiking and biking trails for healthy living close to home,” says POST President Walter T. Moore. “While we have a challenge ahead to achieve the 67 percent vote needed to pass this measure, without this funding source, MROSD’s ability to open new public preserves and trails and to maintain its lands will be severely limited. It also means POST will have a much harder time transferring lands we save to MROSD for permanent protection and public access. This bond measure is key to preserving our region’s unique natural heritage and high quality of life.”
