The high cost of land in our region means an organization like POST needs diverse and creative sources of funding.

POST works closely with environmentally focused foundations in the Bay Area. Funding from our foundation partners provides POST with the capital to do what we do best – buy land for permanent protection and public access.

Foundations have catalyzed some of POST’s largest successes. The David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation jump-started POST’s Saving the Endangered Coast campaign in 2001 by providing two matching $50 million grants. Through this campaign, POST raised $200 million to protect 20,000 acres on the San Mateo Coast. More recently, local foundations provided POST with nearly one third of our $6.9 million goal for our 2008 campaign to save Mindego Hill.

This emblematic generosity represents a strategic investment, giving POST the flexibility to work with public funders for the best protection goal. With foundation support, POST can leverage the private dollar with significant public funding from various state and federal agencies to protect thousands of acres of open space.

2009 Grants

Adobe Systems Incorporated: Over the past two years, Adobe has provided core operating support to POST’s mission.
Margaret A. Cargill Foundation: The Cargill Foundation made a five-year commitment to POST’s operating fund.
David and Lucile Packard Foundation: One of POST’s longest standing major supporters, the Packard Foundation continues its leadership in conservation this year through a planning grant to direct the ultimate use and ownership of our recently acquired Wavecrest property.
Resources Legacy Fund Foundation: RLFF supports POST’s investigation and planning of new conservation opportunities in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara County.
San Francisco Foundation: In supporting the acquisition of Wavecrest, the San Francisco Foundation matches their contribution in 2008 to protect Mindego Hill. The Foundation was a Council Circle supporter of POST’s Coast campaign.

2008 Grants

Foundation for Global Community: As prior inhabitants of POST’s current office, the ties between POST and the Foundation are tightened by history and common vision. The Foundation provided a leadership grant for the protection of Mindego Hill.
Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation: Providing leadership support to POST’s campaign to save Mindego Hill with a $2.3 million grant, and a $2 million grant to protect Blair Ranch, the Moore Foundation continues to be instrumental in POST’s ability to protect local landscapes and to leverage substantial support from other public and private funders.
Silicon Valley Community Foundation: The Community Foundation provided POST major support for POST’s acquisition of Mindego Hill.
